The Sammezzano Castle is the most important example of orientalist architecture in Italy. The history of the place dates back to Roman times, but the current eclectic restructuring is the work of Ferdinando Panciatichi Ximenes d’Aragona who designed, financed and had the park and the castle of Sammezzano built (1853 and 1889).
